global hotkey issue with vlc

Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:28 pm
i switched to phonon-vlc and am now running into trouble with vlc. in the input actions dialog, i've set up a keyboard shortcut (win + v) to launch vlc (command: vlc).

however, when i hit win + v, i get an error:

Code: Select all
Service 'phononbackends/vlc.desktop' is malformatted.

and vlc fails to load.

i am able to launch vlc through kde's program menu and from the command line.

any ideas? thanks!

If you enter /usr/bin/vlc as the command, does anything change?
Also, have you tried running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental"?

/usr/bin/vlc from the command line works fine.

i also tried running kbuildsycoca:

Code: Select all
[dreamz@arch ~]$ kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
kbuildsycoca4 running...
kbuildsycoca4(2269) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/linguist.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon).
kbuildsycoca4(2269) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry MimeType in "/usr/share/applications/linguist.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon).
kbuildsycoca4(2269) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/designer.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon).
kbuildsycoca4(2269) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry MimeType in "/usr/share/applications/designer.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon).
kbuildsycoca4(2269) KConfigGroup::readXdgListEntry: List entry Categories in "/usr/share/applications/assistant.desktop" is not compliant with XDG standard (missing trailing semicolon).

but the error still comes up.

edit: actually, changing the command in the input actions dialog to 'usr/bin/vlc' seems to work. strange.

This is likely related to the fact that the names of the *.desktop files are both "vlc.desktop" thus causing them to conflict each other.
