Hi all,
I have a few icons on my desktop which I dragged and dropped from the menu, everything works ok. But a while ago just after a dist-upgrade I noticed something new, now when I hover over an icon I not only get a popup but also a + sign on the upper left of the icon. When I click on the + it changes to a - but other than that I can't notice anything different, and the behavior stays the same. Could someone please explain to me what this + sign does and what I should/could do with it? I've been looking for information about this all over the net and have come up with nothing. Thanks. |

if you press the + it basically just selects it, you can then press the + on another icon to select both files, then you can copy/paste or drag or wahatever, they just allow you to select multiple files

That kinda makes sense in a file manager type of application, much like the feature in Dolphin.
But why would I want to select more than 1 icon (given that the desktop icons are basically application shortcuts)? |

your right, I'm not sure
in fact, I don't get the little + on my desktop icons, that's strange maybe they shouldn't be there Edit: Unless maybe your desktop activity has been changed to a folder view instead instead of a desktop |

Desktop activity is folder view indeed.
Edit: changed the desktop activity to desktop and now every icon becomes a widget so this doesn't "fix" anything. It's not like this is a life-threatening situation ![]() |

that is odd, I definitely haven't got the little + on my desktop widgets.

I use the icon selection feature all the time to copy, move or delete more than one folder/file at a time because the only current selection feature is Select All.
Sometimes it is better to Select All and then click the - (minus) sign to eliminate the ones I don't want in the selection.
