Please check your installation.
Google did not answer the question. After installing KDE 4.5.0 attempt to login ends the message: "Could not start ksmserver. Please check your installation." New installation on a clean computer had the same result. Login under the Root gives again the same result. I tried: - delete all files and folders from /home/user/.kde4 and /root/.kde4 - Start ksmserver from runlevel 3 (error!) - downgrade kdebase version (mad idea) What can I do? (Thanks for help an sorry for my English) |

If you log in ( as a normal user ) then run "xinit startkde" does it work?

are you using an nvidia card?
I had this once, and my libGL.so was symlinked to the wrong libGL.so.1, it should have been symlinked the libGL.so in the nvidia folder |

in runlevel 3 (init 3) or IceWN (I had IceWN working only):
# zypper up # zypper dup then REBOOT and go to runlevel 3: # zypper lu # zypper ve # zypper inr # zypper pchk # zypper dup then (if you want, you may reboot, but may do it without reboot) # startx and the Force will be with you! |

If you use Xterm, type: # su # root password #init 3 (for openSuSE it's right) startup to runlevel 3: in GRUB print init 3 in startup option line. |

Thank you 'Epoxyde'
I was having the same message after using the 'factory' repository to upgrade to KDE4.5 on openSUSE 11.3.. Implemented using as per your guide here... and it now works perfectly.. I have never used zypper before for updating my system, always used yast.. I will now read up on 'zypper' to make more use of it when updating. Thank again |
