Hello.
I didn't knew where to post this topic so I posted it here. My KDE 4.5.0 on Kubuntu 10.04 stopped running and showed only the wallpaper - no plasmoids, no desktop, panels - nothing. Also keybord strokes were not working. I hit the reset button and now KDE doesn't start. KDM shows up, but when I enter the password it starts logging in, then after half second it shows black screen and immediately goes back to KDM. Is is possible to fix it without reinstalling system? |

When you are at the login screen, press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F2]
Log in as your user...... Then run the following command:
Then type 'exit' + [Enter] After that press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F7] (or [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F8] - am not sure; but it doesn't do anything wrong ![]() Then try to log in into KDE4

With the previous steps, you'll get a brand new standard configuration of KDE4.5, so if everything works perfect after this, you maybe can copy the contents of some folders from kde4-old to .kde4, but BE CAREFUL with this....
If the previous work didn't get the expected result, you can get it back as it was when you posted here by moving the folder back

I don't know the right commands at once (don't sit at my Linux-computer); but can you reinstall KDE4.5 from the shell (via [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F2])?
[Ctrl]+[alt]+[F7] or [Ctrl]+[alt]+[F8] => did one of them showed some log of activities (boot log, or ...?)

It was quite much free space. A directory was also .kde4 i think (if it was .kde, i would rename that one).
It doesn't matter now, my Kubuntu is reinstalled and reconfigured, and so far it works as it should. |
