Panel color

Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:01 am
I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 with KDE 4.4 in the latest available version. I don't have any special repos inculded, so just the defaults.

I've got system effect activated, and it works (little bit slow sometimes, but it's ok).

But there is one thing i don't like visually, the panel. Is it possible to use the grey color for the panel even if effects are activated? That's one thing I like much better when the effects are deactivated - the non transparent grey color of the panel.

Yes, you can.

Look for "Desktop Theme Details" in the System Settings application (I believe it's located in the "Advanced" tab in KDE 4.4).

Under KDE 4.5 it can be found in "Workspace Appearance" -> "Desktop Theme" -> "Details".

Select the Default theme "Air". Then look for the item "Panel Background" in the list below.
From the drop down box next to it select "File...".
Select the file /usr/share/apps/desktoptheme/default/opaque/widgets/panel-background.svgz.
Apply your changes, then right-click the desktop and make sure the "(Customized)" theme is selected.

You should now have the opaque panel background.
