Hi,

the first time I used dual monitors after I updated my KDE version some time ago I (stupidly) answer "yes" to some question asking if I wanted the Display Settings window to open when a new monitor is detected. I thought it would be smart and open the window when I connect a new monitor, but it actually only pops up when I already configured it (through krandr) or when I explicitly open the Display settings from the main System Settings.

Now I am trying to disable this popup since it's useless. I tried searching options in the System Settings and I even grep'd some config files but I was unable to decrypt where this setting is store.

Any help?

I would guess that this setting is stored in "krandrrc" which can be found in ~/.kde4/share/config/ or ~/.kde/share/config depending on your distribution.

thanks, but I had looked at this file already. There's nothing there which resembles this option (unless the default is to show it automatically, in which case there should be something there disabling it).

Have you looked into "kdeglobals" and "kdedrc"?

thanks again, but I had no success. The only option that seem to be relevant, randrmonitorchange=true in kdedrc has actually no effect for this issue.

Note that if you are changing that, you must do it without kded4 running. Therefore, you must do it outside of KDE to have any effect.

only today I had time to actually turn off KDE.

It worked. It seems that the "randrmonitorchange=true" config at "kdedrc" was the problem.
