Hello all,
I got a new mouse for my office PC, a Logitech mouse. lsusb says idVendor 0x046d Logitech, Inc. idProduct 0xc069 bcdDevice 56.01 iManufacturer 1 Logitech iProduct 2 USB Laser Mouse and it is *way too fast*. I think I roughly need a stamp's space to navigate on the complete 1920x1200 desktop. Certainly I checked in the system settings, input devices, mouse, but I was not able to find settings which decelerate the mouse effectively. The problem, as I found out, seems to be that this mouse is a 1000dpi model, and probably it is falsely detected as a model with lower resolution (probably 400dpi). Hence it produces more than twice as many impulses for the same drag way. Well, this should not be a problem since one should be able to slow down the mouse ... but there is no such control in KDE 4.4 and 4.5. You can set the acceleration, but not the base speed or the resolution. The acceleration only kicks in when the mouse is dragged a certain distance in a short time. You can set this acceleration factor, but it does not help for correcting speed in the slow mode. Even when setting to the lowest value 0.1, the mouse is hardly useable when you need to precisely navigate on the screen. Yes, I tried lomoco. Which told me the following: # lomoco -i 003.003: 046d:c069 Unsupported Logitech device: USB Laser Mouse Well. Seems as if I have to continue using the old mouse for some time. Any suggestions? I mean, I could try to encourage the lomoco people to update their tool, but I think that mouse speeds are a concern of the window manager. The currently available mouse controls in the system settings are just not sufficient in my view. GNOME *does* have settings, people told me. Michael |

I haven't had any need to try, but you could try what's suggested here:
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/75 Written by a Gnome user so if Gnome has settings for that it doesn't seem to be sufficient.

This is something that needs to be configured on the X server level. It is not under the control of KDE.

The tutorial referenced by Kryten2X4B applies only to older version of the X server (those that use the HAL daemon for input device hotplugging).
If you are running a recent version of the X server (server version >= 1.8.0) it's actually easier: You should add something like the following to /etc/X11/xorg.conf (create the file if it does not exist yet).
Replace "Lasermouse" and "Lasemouse Inc." with the values from lsusb. The "Identifier" doesn't matter. You will also have to experiment with the deceleration value a bit. For my Razer mouse, a value of 20 was way too much. I currently have it set to 3 and it works perfectly. Restart X (logout) after you made changes to xorg.conf. The example was taken from the Arch wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#InputClasses), more information can be found here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Input_de ... figuration |

After some experimenting it seems to work now as expected. It is sufficient to use a ConstantDeceleration of 3 for me. I had some problems with the MatchVendor: lsusb -v shows:
... idVendor 0x046d Logitech, Inc. ... but only MatchVendor "Logitech" seems to work for me. If I use "Logitech, Inc." the settings are not used. Michael |
