i am using kubuntu 10.10 or 10.04 and i have a stupid issue...
a lots of time i upgrade kde and so i like delete $HOME/.kde so often i lost my custum settings and yea i could save them but i wondering if there is a way to enable the filter bar for each users by default the filter bar i think it's the most important thing i have to have (xD) so... i was thinking i will find dolphinrc somewhere and so try to use locate dolphinrc and i get only dolphinrc into my $HOME into /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/ there is not dolphinrc so i can't modify that file where is the default dolphinrc ? or how should i do ? is that created dynamically ? thank you

The file is only created when someone changes the dolphin settings away from the default. At least for my system, the default settings appear to be stored in this file:
/usr/share/kde4/config.kcfg/dolphin_generalsettings.kcfg

Looking to this
cat /usr/share/kde4/config.kcfg/dolphin_generalsettings.kcfg | grep filter it seems it's the correct file to modify ty so much i tried and it seems it's working but i have to set better dolphin now i have edited the file kdesudo kate /usr/share/kde4/apps/dolphin/dolphinui.rc to get Up button ... and it worked <ToolBar noMerge="1" name="mainToolBar" > <text context="@title:menu">Main Toolbar</text> <Action name="go_back" /> <Action name="go_forward" /> <Action name="go_up"/> <Separator name="separator_1" /> <Action name="icons" /> <Action name="details" /> <Action name="columns" /> <Separator name="separator_0" /> <Action name="show_preview" /> <Action name="split_view" /> </ToolBar> |

on kubuntu kcfg is not the file to modify
i am trying to set filter bar and disk usage for each user with this kdesudo kate /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/config/dolphinrc they did that folder and ... what i have to say... on natty alpha there is dolphinrc on the other release like lucid no. adding [General] EditableUrl=true FilterBar=true ShowFullPath=true ShowSpaceInfo=true RenameInline=true ShowCopyMoveMenu=true and it seems is working but i have to test more this solutions should be THE solution but untill i don't test on a fresh installation i will not be sure 100% :S i want a kubuntu that just works and has every features i need for these pc. i can't undestand why creating dolphinrc on that folder (lucid) the system doesn't use it |

The configuration between Natty and Lucid in /etc/kde4rc is likely different, or the compiled in options are different.
