Which 4.5 version? I just tried in 4.5.2 and couldn't reproduce.
Does any other keystrokes work in the dialog, such as Escape or Enter? Can you write in the text box after clicking in it?

Thank you for quick reply. I am using KDE 4.5.1 in Arch Linux. I could not find any keyboard working inside of the dialog. But I found that global keys like CTRL+ALT+F1 works. ESC doesn't work. Actually, there is no way to put a custom file name. I can put file name by clicking existing file though. Thank you. |

Since you are from Korea do you by chance use an input method engine like IBus or SCIM?
I was using IBus in the past but had problems just like the one you described. In addition to the broken file dialog, the Hotkeys Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V (for copy/paste) were not working anymore. I have disabled IBus now and enable it only when needed by starting the application from the console and typing "export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus" before starting the application. My problems have gone away since I stopped using an IME. |

Thank you for your help. It solved the problem. I had the configuration in ~/.xinitrc. I moved it to ~/.xinitrc.backup and restarted the computer. And I now know your solution works. Unfortunately, by running "export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus" in terminal, I could not get ibus input system on other applications. So, I decided to recover .xinitrc. I restarted my computer after moving .xinitrc.backup to .xinitrc. A strange thing is that ibus doesn't work anymore in KDE application such as KWrite,,Kate and Konqueror. I am not sure whenter it stopped working before I removed .xinitrc or not. I guess removing the configuration file is not related to your solution. It must be related to my last KDE upgrade to 4.5.2. I guess I got another to fix. Your help was great. Thank you so much. |

The problem causing not able to use ibus in KDE application was fixed by moving ~/.xinitrc to ~/.xprofile. My ibus configuration in .xinitrc was read and ibus was working fine in KDE 4.5.1. After upgrading to 4.5.1. I guess it doesn't read ~/.xinitrc anymore.
I have used Ubuntu 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04 with gnome. I am using Arch Linux with KDE. I want to say "You never upgrade if you are using Ubuntu or KDE. That's my conclusion after six months of using Linux as my main OS. |

Now I'm a bit confused.
Does it work now even though you have IBus enabled? Or did you disable IBus? |
