Webpage As Wallpaper

Mon Oct 25, 2010 10:01 pm
Is it possible---via 3rd party software or directly---to set a webpage as the background?

I read about xwinwrap (screensavers and mplayer as wallpaper) but I've heard some mixed messages about it working on KDE.

So I'm still curious, is there a KDE-method of using a webpage as a wallpaper? (it has to be interactive, not a screenshot)

As shipped, it is not possible. However, it would be possible to place a Plasma::WebView as the primary canvas in a Plasma::Containment in theory. Note that in some circumstances it wouldn't be possible to interact with the page.

You could just use a web view plasmoid and expand it to fill the desktop.

Since there is a web view plasmoid, making a containment (desktop type) out of it shouldn't be too hard I think. But no, it doesn't exist yet - maybe you should post an idea in [url=http//brainstorm.forum.kde.org[/url] if it doesn't already exist.

For now another alternative (although a bit troublesome to setup) is to use an application, e.g. Konqueror, and customize the window. Some suggestions: make a custom profile and modify it to your liking, hide window border, set keep window below and fullscreen, skip pager/taskbar and make it appear on all virtual desktops. See
Code: Select all
kstart --help

for more information.
