Is there a setting in Dolphin which hides temporary/backup files (those with '~' suffix) similar to Alt+. for Hidden files?

not that I'm aware of but if these files are created in kate or kwrite you can change the way backup files are created in these programs by adding a prefix of "." which makes the backup files hidden. kate -> settings -> configure kate -> editor component -> open/save -> advanced tab -> prefix
You should not remove the "~" suffix because there is a chance you could overwrite a program or system hidden file(s) - the example give in the below link uses the creation and editing of file called kderc whose backup would overwrite the kde system file .kderc (assuming it was created in the home dir). see http://old.nabble.com/Hide-Backup-Files-td19811451.html for a discussion |

It is not possible, but there is a very old bug report about it.

Thanks for your replies.
On further investigation it looks like most apps allow you to modify the naming of backup files, or switch them off completely. However an option in Dolphin would offer the 'path to least resistance' so I'll take a look at the bug report. Thanks again.
