For some reason the login script or user database refuses to let me use my original ID here 'n9nu', thus the new registration with a different name.

I saw some other post in regards to this, but never saw a reponse.

Whenever I right click on the KDE button to choose 'edit applications' (it launches kmenuedit), make my changes/additions, and click save, the new menu will have several anomolies when displayed.

1. Moving entire applications folders (e.g. Internet and its contents) to another position in the tree or elsewhere, will often fail to showup or wind up in other sub directories after viewing the menu after saving your changes.

2. Likewise, numerous blue folders will show up with either nothing in them or with duplicate entries of what you moved/modded earlier resulting in several or a few empty blue folders showing up via the classic menu as accesed from the taskbar.

3. Menu entries that are added manually to any given folder will not show up with their selected icons as selected within kmenuedit. The display for those, is just the same blue folder.

I am running the latest devel version of KDE and have had this problem for over two years now. For most part I can manage to correct these situations by completely removing the modified entries via kmenuedit and manually adding the items, but there are some that just plain refuse to move to their 'new' locations.

KSycoca or something to that effect (I was told) could be run manually after each mod to 'force' the selected updates to take effect. I know it runs automatically when you close out of systemsettings, but does not seem to be consistent.

I have better luck running kmenuedit from the CLI (w/ my user acct) when it comes to all the above, however, the right clicking on the K button to access 'edit applications' (which runs the same program...kmenuedit) seems to produce problems more frequently.

Most people don't edit their entries as much as I do. Others use the newer app launcher, so I don't know how many people experience this bug.

Can this be forwarded or be brought to the attention of the appropriate maintainer to get some insight?

Thank You

Tim

It is probable that the maintainer does not know of issues, or there is a lack of a maintainer. If you know Qt/C++ then I suggest looking at the code located in KDE SVN to gain an insight into why it is having problems.
