Hi,
I have Kubuntu and I have a monitor and a TV LCD connected in format extended. I'm trying to change the primary monitor but it seems that the command doesn't do nothing. Could you help me please? Many thanks and sorry for my english!

What do you mean by that the command does not do anything? It will not output anything, and xrandr's output does not include the primary flag. Do you have indications other than the xrandr command's output that the desired monitor is not primary after issuing the xrandr --primary command?

Hi,
I'll refresh this topic because I've got the same problem and my frustration levels are of the chart ![]() So: I've got a laptop with two external connectors, HDMI and D-SUB. Recently i was forced to move tfrom radeon driver to fglrx (radeon has some problems with opengl in 3d apps on my card). After that suddenly `--primary` switch of xrandr stopped working... No matter what i do with xrandr i'm ending up with taskbar exactly there where i don't want to have it... Examples: LVDS + CRT -> taskbar is on CRT (imagine an external projector scenario...) LVDS + DFP -> taskbar is on DFP (no so good either, for example if DFP is connected only to play a movie) DFP + CRT -> taskbar is on CRT (this maybe has some rational explanation, but for me weaker connection quality should land as secondary display) If i will move taskbar to second monitor in any of this scenarios and then unplug externals without moving it back I end up with no taskbar at all... I've even tried to use Catalyst Control Center to set up everything correctly, but I failed event there... KDE 4.4.5, fglrx 10.11, Thanks in advance for any help/ideas/solutions (: |

Several fixes have gone into multimonitor and multiscreen setups in 4.5 and 4.6 (recently out). You should try upgrading if possible and see whether the issue persists.
Also, I'm not sure how nice fglrx plays with xrandr.

how fglrx plays... hmmm... i've got two sections in my xorg.conf
Device with identifier and driver and Screen identifier, subsection display and virtual (to easly mangle with different monitors) rest is done via randr (i think)... fglrxs bigdesktop steps down to make the playground available to randr... As to upgrading... I would rather delay that until 4.5 will be marked as stable in my distro... 4.6 is hard masked (development tests or something)... is there no other way? i would even settle down for making static list of connectors priority... |

Hi,
I have the same problem and tried upgrading to KDE 4.6. There is a primary screen switch in KDE monitor configuration tool but it doesn't work either (I suppose it works the same way as --primary switch for xrandr). Did anyone find a solution? |

upgrading to 4.6 solved my issue... at least for my work place where i want taskbar on DFP... didn't test anything else...
however this upgrade brought to me a whole lot of new 'features' to solve (: like extremely choppy rendering in browsers which makes 4.6 somewhat useless to me... movies are also affected (flash included) + video tearing... but kde is working perfectly... sometimes kwin eats up one core... don't now why... also today i've lost all my bookmarks in krusader... i tried to organize them... well.. that was one way to do it... for tonight i've planned to switch to radeon driver to see if this will solve choppiness problem... i'll post back the results (: |

So... here are the results of switching to radeon driver:
1. KDE experience is much smoother... 2. i've got artifacts from time to time 3. it seems that kde won't remember default monitor layout 4. videos are playing quite nice... with that results on both drivers my experience with kde 4.6 is rather ****... cheers (: |
