I like KDE particularly for it's app level configurability of windows. I've tried a couple of times now to transition to KDE 4 but it's not working well for me.
The one thing that I can't work around is the lack of direct desktop icons. I find I'm forever having to edit the paths and parameters in the launch icons. I don't mind this but KDE 4 makes it a very twisted exercise of loading up Dolphin and finding the real location of the icon because the desktop doesn't! ![]() |

You can drag-and-drop application icons directly from the application launcher to either the desktop or a folderview. You can also use the applications: or programs: kio slave in dolphin or konqueror to view your applications and drag-and-drop them from there. You can also add, for example, a shelf widget to the desktop and add whatever programs you want to that, or directly use your list of favorites (which is what I do).

Hello, What version of kde do use in the above image? Because I have kde 4.5.85 (4.6 Beta2) on Mandriva, and I don't have the option activities like in your picture. I want to enable my items from the desktop. Thank you. Ps: Solved my problem. Thank you. |

Is this fixed for you in RC 1? I see them here (openSUSE 11.3 with RC1)

I don't remember if my problem was fix before or after RC1, but my guess is that after. |
