it is the first time I write a post about kde , but I woluld like to get explanaition about this problem

my pc is x86 64 and I use suse and mandriva with kde 4.4

I have discover the problem when i burned a cd , after burning it was not possible to setect it on my two devices the first I used for burning and an other , I used to sometimes ...

it was a cd of pictures (jpg) and I could see it on my tv and its dvd privat device;

same thing with a music cd , not able to bee read on my computer but ok with my radio ..

I have the idea to test those copies with ubuntu ( gnome) no problem to detect them ( music and pictures or others ) .

On suse 11.3 I have load gnome , and now i can change the cession kde to gnome or gnome to kde. on kde most of cd or dvd burned are not detected , when i change to Gnome , most of them , event if they are 5 or 6 years old , are detected , no problem to get music pictures or someething else

I have discribe the problem on suse french forum , I am not the only one . For mee I Have repeat the experience on an other pc susse 11.3 32bits same behaviour.

How, exactly, did you mount the cd or dvd? Did you use dolphin, device notifier, konqueror, or something else? Does the device appear in /media? If you open something like nautilus, mount it there, then open the folder in /media using dolphin, can you view the device that way? Have you tried updating to KDE 4.5?

When I introduce a cd I get automatcly an information , " device connected " , périphérique branché , I don't get this information for pictures cd or dvd , and somtimes for song or other files. Of course if I open dolphin , the device is not present.

With kde 3.5 , it was fine , and with gnome , i get on the desktop the information about the device i can open ...

I observe this problem with Mandriva and suse , and with Suse I can use the session with gnome and KDE 4.4, and the problem is for kde 4.4.

I Have not the oportunity to test kde 4.5

I have birened especialy a live dc Fedora 14 KDE
With this live cd
When i introduce a cd in model_CDDVDW_SH_S222L

immediatly apear as usual a smal windows with the name of the cd I havec introduced and suggestions to open it, What I expect to get at any time..

whith the live cd suse and Mandriv a kde 4.4 (or instaled on my pc) when i do the same operration ,nothing happen whith some cd as I explained

with suse 11.3 gnome , same thing like fedora with kde 4.4

I dont know how to test kde 4.5 o, suse 11.3

I expect , that those informations are interesting ...

For the migration it seems ok for what i Have tested it 10 mn


For our problem :

Immediatly all the the cd are detected ( I have repeat 10 times , no more, it is better than what i got with kd 4.4.

I have done the trial with opensuse 11.3 installed on a directory that I used for tests , not every day . is KDe 4.5 enought stable to use it every day

NB I have apreciate the Behaviour of Gnewview

is it possible to improve the bug on kde 4.4

It is probable the bug you are encountering was only fixed after the last KDE 4.4 release was done, so it isn't possible to fix this in 4.4. KDE 4.5 is recommended at this time. I believe SUSE still uses the 4.4 KDE PIM if you are concerned about that.

thanks for your answer , but what abour kde 4.5 stable or not , can I use use it every day

In my (rare granted) use of optical media, I haven't had any issues with KDE. KDE 4.5 is the current stable release series.

Thanks for all , in fact I suse a few time cd , but just only to save photos , pictures , whrer there is a problem
