Hi,
do you know why nvidia drivers are not ok anymore since a few versions ?
After upgrade with version 260.19.29 i have a floating point exception when booting .
This since 256.53 .
Thanks ;)

(btw i've been told it's a known issue since kde 4.5 and ok with kde 4.4.4)

i'm using
opensuse 11.3
Qt: 4.7.1
KDE Development Platform: 4.5.90 (4.6 RC1)

When do you get that exception? And does it mean you need to downgrade the driver or does it somewhat work?

I have the exact same setup according to your signature on one of my machines and it works without a hitch (using Gforce 7300 GS card).

Hello ;)

I have an x86 core 2 duo E8400 at 3ghz , opensuse 11.3 and Kde 4.6 rc1 , when i use the last nvidia driver for x86 (260.19.29 ) install goes ok, but after reboot (shutdown -r now) i have a black screen after boot and an error message saying there's a floating point exception .
I can't see anything, but an error message, it's blinking and i can't close it.
So i need to go to turn off session and then i go to ctrl+alt+F1 console and install 256.53.run driver which works ok.

I have to do the same since 256.53 version when before this i used to upgrade fluently with each new version.

are you running 32bit or 64bit? if not 64bit it might worth trying. Have you read through this http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get- ... ssues.html.

x86 is 32 bits, i don't have a 64 bits pc next to me ...

It looks like a lot a looking into this problem wihtout being really sure where it's coming from : kde,X, driver, hardware, kernel ?

What do you think can be the problem ?

I know someone who says he resolved his issues with 260.19 by switching to a distro with a newer kernel (32bit) but the impression of what I've seen seems to be that it's a 32bit issue (but I only know that 64bit works fine for me, if you look though that openSuse thread I think the posters are primarily 32bit). Could there also be a graphics card component to the problem - no idea?

If falling back to the 256 series drivers works, why not? Or you could try the Nouveau drivers.

If you're happy with openSuse I'd suggest going 64bit if possible, if it is a kernel issue 11.4rc1 is due Feb 10 and gold early March.

256 is good, but upgrading is not that's strange, maybe 260 has a problem (?)
i think i'll wait if nothing sure is found.
