xdg-mime usage

Tue Jan 11, 2011 2:42 pm
change association by xdg-mime
Hi people,
I am trying to change the current association for MS word documents from Kword to openoffice.
I guess I'm following closely the indicated step in the manual, i.e.:

~ xdg-mime default openoffice.org-writer.desktop application/msword

but when I check it I get this:
~ xdg-mime query default application/msword
kword.desktop

what am I doing wrong?

thank you...

Hmm, xdg-mime isn't part of KDE. But of course it should still work ;)

You could also try "keditfiletype application/msword" for the KDE way.

And you could check ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list to see what xdg-mime is actually changing in there, if anything.
