Control which activity goes to which monitor

Hi; currently using KDE 4.5.5 on Kubuntu Maverick. (soon to up to 4.6!!)

I'm using a laptop with an external monitor port. When I plug in my external monitor and activate it with krandrtray, my normal desktop activities jump over to the external monitor leaving me with an empty activity on my laptop screen. I'd like the exact opposite of this, but I don't see any way to control which activity goes to which monitor. I've tried changing the relationships between the two (above, below, left, right), but it doesn't make any difference.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried setting your laptop monitor to be the primary monitor? It may also depend on which side the external display is on (or rather which side you tell the computer it is on).

I would assume it already is by default, but how do you set that? I don't see a control for it.

But I've tried all four sides and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

In "size and orientation" you should be able to select "primary output".

Hrmm... mine hasn't got a button for it that I can see. I've clicked, right-clicked, middle-clicked and expanded every control, but I don't see it. Are you on 4.6 perhaps?

Is it a checkbox?

My graphics card is just onboard intel graphics, if that makes a difference.

Ahah -- I upgraded to 4.6 and now I see the "primary monitor" selector. I'll have to try this with my external when I get a chance.

Thanks for the help!
