KDE 4.6: search not working in dolphin

Hi,

after upgrading to KDE 4.6, I can only find anything with dolphins search feature if Nepomuk is disabled. Otherwise it will just tell me "No files found" instantaneously, even if a file with the given name exists in the current folder!

It seems dolphin does not search through unindexed locations when the search starts in an indexed location, even when you choose to search "everywhere".

Can I tell dolphin to always use filename search in addition to the search index?

In fact, I think that such a feature was meant by design. To achieve what you want, the best would be to file an idea at Brainstorm or a wishlist item in bugs.kde.org.

I see. So dolphin uses nepomuksearch when you are in an indexed folder, and filenamesearch otherwise.

Hmm, this simple way of choosing doesn't take partially indexed folders into account, though. For example I have excluded some sub folders of my home folder from the index. They contain source code and make my search index huge when indexed.

I guess I should file a BUG report.

By the way, Strigi used to display an icon in the notification area when the indexer was active. That was quite useful because you could tell when the indexing was complete. You could also right-click it to manually suspend the indexer.

With KDE 4.6 the icon vanished. Can I enable it again?

You need to install it seperately. See http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Ne ... ent=137088

Oh cool, thanks. :)

EDIT:

Hmm, it fails to build on Arch Linux:
Code: Select all
CMake Error at /usr/share/apps/cmake/modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:198 (MESSAGE):
Could NOT find Nepomuk (missing: SOPRANO_PLUGIN_REDLANDBACKEND_FOUND)

Seems Arch's soprano is built without "redland" backend. Why is a specific backend needed for the tray application?

Don't know the answer to your question, but since you use Arch: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=45131

@Vortex375: At least on my system, it switched between it's search index, and manual searching, at least for filenames, as needed.

Okay, so it works for "mixed" folders too?

Maybe it didn't show proper search results because the indexer was still running. I will do some more tests.
