please help with the following error.
notes: 1. xdm was added to default runlevel 2. dbus is started 3. hal started 4. consolekit started 5. Kde 4.6 ( I have tried also kde 4.5) 6. Server X work correctly

Can you please detail what exactly does not start? Does the desktop itself not appear, or are you simply returned to the login screen?

What other details do you want? I don't know because the system is not started! Probably the problem is presented after upgrade the system but I don't know by which package is caused... I have reinstall kdm all kde ( I have update to kde-4.6) dbus q-dbus consolekit sys-auth..
After kdm, the loading of kde blocks it on the startup screen , it don't load the symbol "k". After this the screen is black but is present the mouse.. |

It seems Plasma or another desktop component has failed to start. If you press "Alt + F2" does a run command window show itself at the top of the screen?

No, I have tried but it don't show nothing... It can not be a problem of the dbus??

Ok. That DBus message is unrelated. If you create a new user, does it work there?

I have created another user ,I have deleted all home but the problem persists..

On kdm I have found this error :
I tried to disable kdm and to run kde from the shell using startkde or startkde o dbus-lanch startkde o exec starkde, but the result is always the same error : the variable $DISPLAY is not set ( even if I set it manually )   I tried to analize the code of startkde and I have seen that the kcheckrunning is not able to find the server x Session . The return code of this program is always 2 and this error stops the startkde program. I have tried even to run the server X manually and after to run the kde session but it doesn' t solve the problem... |

Use startx to start the X system from the terminal and place in $HOME/.xinitrc whatever you wanna run like "exec startkde"
I would suggest you to try running a simple window manager like fluxbox to make sure the X system is running properly. You can as well try using vesa insted of the nvidia driver... Regards

Yes , I tried with openbox and awesome, all it works correctly...

What about /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

With driver vesa kde work correctly ( without effect )...
  I have solve the problem with dowgrade the nvidia drivers to version 260... before I Had the version 270...  Thank you for your help.

recently updated to kde 4.6.2. my problem is like almost same, xcept..
1. the atl+f2 run starts ok 2. before update to kde 4.6.2, i created a user. if i login with this user a/c..everythings start normal and run ok. 3. from my a/c fluxbox starts ok. the problem: after the K image shows in the splash window.. everything went dark (the desktop i mean). cannot see a singlt dot. mouse works. i can run apps through run window. the k notification shows some notification (without kwin) like network starts etc.. really no idea wat the heck going on or wat did i do wrong while updating. one thing i remember i didnt disabled all third party repos. and also i did installed glasen-intel-driver (xxx902). bt i thing dats nt the problem. u guys guess any alue to solution.. thx in advance.. here is the output of "plasma-destop" i run from konsole while i was in the dark kde room.

steps i have tried..
1. removing /var/tmp/kdecache-<username> 2. removing .Xauthority and exc "# touch .Xauthority". changed perm to 600. same for the .ICEauthority. both this files suppsoed to be 0 byte. but afer a login to dark kde, i noticed .Xauthority gain some bytes (220 here). this two steps failed to be successful. then i tried.. 3. removing .kde and relogin to kde-plasma this works well. but then all my previous configs will lost. so, nw i am like in a very confused situation. one thing, i hav noticed when i tried to start plasma-desktop is this... QDBusObjectPath: invalid path "" could it be the reason behind all this ?? dnt knw.. |
