Is there a way to reset or fix my file manager context menus?

What happens is when I use dolphin (1.2.1) or konqueror (3.5.10) I hit the right button on my mouse on a file or folder both of those programs crash (closes without warning). I can however right click on the Places section in dolphin to eject edit or hide the locations without a problem.

I am currently using KDE 3.5 on the system that is having this issue and have never experienced this on earlier versions or 4.x.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need more info please ask.

Try running "kbuildsycoca --noincremental"

I did that and this was the output:

kbuildsycoca running...

Invalid entry (missing '=') at /opt/kde3/share/applications/external/MsfCli3.desktop:1

I noticed a "[" was missing before "desktop entry]" so I added it then ran again and no errors.

Now the context menu doesnt crash Konqueror but still does with Dolphin.

yes I just created a test user and it had the same issue with the context menu and dolphin.. I even used apt to remove and reinstall it with no luck.

I am tempted to compile a copy kde4.x and see if I av the same issues. If I am correct I can have 3.5 & 4.x on the same machine without conflict.

Can you please use the Crash Assistant which appears after Dolphin crashes to generate a backtrace, and file a bug report at bugs.kde.org? This is not expected behaviour, it appears that either the files themselves, or applications you have installed lead to Dolphin crashing.

Crash Handler does not run after it happens but I will submit servies/apps/etc running at the time it happens but I did manage to catch this when I started it from a terminal:

^^I Assume this symbol error is the cause of what is happening and it does for all types of files not just that particular one.

An error message such as that means you either have a package version mismatch, or the packages shipped by your distribution, possibly including third party components, are defective. Please ensure your repository caches are up to date and that all relevant KDE updates have been installed.
