Yeah the file chooser window for kde apps in kde3 could be custmized pretty good.

But i have not found what file is the config file for it as i want to add it to the list of important backup files.

So any one who knows of its name and where it resides in kde3 and kde4.

And another less important question: where does the excutable file thatat kde3 programs in this case use resides as i want to try to change the gtk file picker to kde3 one... and if you know of the kde4 one let here it 2:)

I think this depends on the kind of customization. If it is application specific it will be written to a special section of the respective application's config file. If it is KDE-wide I think it will be written into the "kdeglobals" file.

Config paths can be determined by running

% kde-config --path config

or

% kde4-config --path config

KDE programs get the file picker/dialog through a library call, i.e. they use a "built-in" functionality rather than an external executable.

There is a helper program called "kdialog" which can do this internally and this provide such a dialog for example to shell scripts.
For integration with GTK programs there might be an adapter library, IIRC there has been some for KDE3.

Cheers,

ahh okaay, well there was one script that would kdefie gtk apps but it still dident change the gtk filepicker ,wich is less functionble then kdialog as in kdialog you can add your own icons 4 the sidebar shortcuts.. and when having alot of them (themes icons and so on that neads 2 be sorted when downloding all intresting stuff from kde-look)

Did you find a workaround for this?

I believe the executable 'kdialog' is already part of KDE 4.
It is present in my Trunk install anyway....
