Folks I have kde Platform Version 4.6.00 (4.6.0) . By some reason the trashcan is notworking. I added a link to trash:/ it displays the right icon but if I do click there nothing seems to be being stored there waiting for permanent removal. I wonder where are my files going and how do I fix it. Good news, files are not disappearingthey ce back when I start a new session as my user in kde so maybe thisis a broken symlink or somehing like that. Can one give ideas?

if you add the trash widget to the desktop do things work correctly if you use the widget to open trash?
if you type trash:/ in the Dolphin address bar is the contents of the directory what you expect? |

No, it opens an empty directory. And when I try to deletea file with delete keyboard key it simple remains unchanged. |

if you create and login as a different user does trash work?
rename/remove the ktrashc and trashrc files in ~/.kde4/share/config/trashrc or ~/.kde/share/config/trashrc, does that help? |

I tried the move thing and it did fail. Trash worked as root. I tried to create a new user but my user could not log on X. It reported a failure to write in /var/log/Xorg.0.log or something like that I dont have the exact error message here but I shall post it as soon as I get home.

the actual locale for trash is ~/.local/share/Trash do you have rw access to the directory?

The metadata which makes up the trash directory, ~/.local/share/Trash can also become corrupted in certain circumstances, leading to unusual behaviour. Try removing the entire folder and logging out and back in again to regenerate a new folder. Note that any items currently in the trash will be lost.

I really think this was the case I ended up creating another user, which basically does the same as you described since all the metadatas had to be created for this new user. Now trash works. Out of curiosity which file would it be to delete the metadata? |

Simply delete the entire folder, ~/.local/share/Trash

There are also per-partition Trash directories. They are normally hidden and start with .Trash
You should find and delete these as well. Check to see if there is one in /home and if so delete it (you will probably need root privileges). If you have removable drives there may also be .Trash directories in them, so go to /media and see if any of the sub-folders of /media have .Trash directories and if so delete them as well. Note that you and anyone else who uses your computer will lose any files in the trash.
