[SOLVED] Problems with KDE 4.6

Fri Mar 11, 2011 9:27 pm
Hello everyone! I have a few problems, some of it described here.

Here it goes (ordered by urgency):

1. Since KDE 4.6 there is no file search in konqueror anymore. There is no menu entry for the search in Tools menu, as well as ctrl+F doesn't do anything. Am I missing something here?

2. Let's say user1 logs in and locks the session. If user2 starts a new session, and then logs out, first session (user1) will crash. However, some of the user1 session's processes will remain (kded4 for example). This is very annoying, anybody having the similar issue? In the mentioned example, if user2 also locks his session, and user1 logs in again, and then logs out, user2's session will remain intact.

3. Sometimes, using keyboard shortcuts for suspend, hibernate and power off will cause kded4 process (and whole workspace) to hang.

4. Since KDE 4.6 kmix with pulseaudio doesn't display any devices, unless I close it, delete its config files in $HOME/.kde4/share/config and start it again. But I have to do this at every login. If I recompile it without PulseAudio support, it works, but this I consider as temporary solution. Some people reported that starting kmix with "LANG=en kmix --keepvisibility" helps. Is this a known issue?

I hope I'm posting in the right section. :) Thanks in advance to anyone who can say me more about these issues.

Cheers!

For 1) it appears that Dolphin's new searching functionality, which uses Nepomuk in addition to direct disk searching isn't available in Konqueror at this time.

2) should definitely not occur. Is user 1's session simply crashed or is it completely logged out?
If it is completely logged out, it is like a case of the two running instances of KWin conflicting, causing X to crash due to poorly written drivers.

3) Shouldn't occur either. If you remotely connect can you determine if any process is using 100% of the cpu? Also, try pressing Alt + Shift + F12 to temporarily disable compositing.

4) I gather simply restarting KMix isn't enough?

For 4, I assume pulseaudio is installed, enabled, and properly configured? I am personally not seeing this problem, so it might be something specific to arch.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Regarding 4 (kmix with pulseaudio problem): I've found a bug report:
Bug #264835
So others are also having problems. It's not a big deal, my main concerns are 1 and 2. :)

bcooksley, I've just tried with three sessions. I've noticed that every time the first session crashes (vt7). I'm also thinking this could be related to driver problem (I'm using mesa compiled from git). I'll try Arch stock drivers and report back.

The search problem in konqueror: so this isn't specific problem to me only, you guys also don't have a search in konqueror?

I know multiple problem thread isn't the best way to ask for a help, but I'm not active that much on these forums and it's easier for me to follow a single thread. So I apologize for that.
