Hi.

I am wondering if I'm missing something. I would like to be notified of software updates weekly, not daily, so I went into the Software Management (inside System Settings) --> Settings, and chose "Weekly" for the "Check for updates" option. I still seem to see the notifier on the system tray every time updates are available, which is more frequent than every week. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
Dai

As far as I can tell, this is probably some weird behavior in KPackageKit/Apper. Despite it appearing in System Settings, it is not officially part of the KDE modules. You may want first to consult your distribution (Kubuntu) and if this behavior is confirmed, open a bug on bugs.kde.org.

Thanks for the quick response.

Does it mean KPackageKit is distributed by Kubuntu as part of their KDE package?

I will ask them on the Kubuntu forum. :)

More or less yes (not only Kubuntu, but openSUSE from 11.4 onwards), although KPackageKit is developed inside KDE's infrastructure (but not part of the main modules, as I said).

That said, the Kubuntu people are the first who deployed it in the distro so they might have a better clue.

Try going into the "edit origins" section, where you manage repositories. In the Updates tab, you will see some update options as well. These iirc are specific to apt/ubuntu so these should work.

Ideally, they probably should have removed those update options from the stock KPAckageKit UI you see up front, or somehow make them point to the apt-specific options

Thanks, that did the trick! It sure is a confusing UI. :)
