I have backed up my ~/.kde4/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc. If I were to want to restore from that backup, is there a way to do that while logged in and running KDE? I know I can log out, switch to a different TTY, copy the file over on the command line, then login, but I was looking for an option that doesn't involve logging out.

You could try asking kglobalaccel to reload it's configuration (qdbus org.kde.kglobalaccel /MainApplication reparseConfiguration). If that doesn't work you will need to restart it (kquitapp kglobalaccel && sleep 2s && kglobalaccel &)

Quitting and restarting kglobalaccel did the trick, while the dbus command did not. Thanks! This actually came in quite handy as I was trying to set the alternate Walk Through Windows shortcuts to use Meta+Tab and Meta+Shift+Tab, but Meta+Shift+Tab wasn't working. I tried to set it to Meta+Shift+Backtab, but had no way of actually entering a Backtab. Or at least none of which I was aware. So I edited the kglobalshortcutsrc manually and killed and restarted kglobalaccel and it worked.

Thanks again!
