uninstalled kde-win by accident

Thu Mar 31, 2011 2:33 pm
I have ‘accidentally’ :) managed to uninstall kde-win

So now, when I boot into Kubuntu, I do not have control over windows and keyboard input.

Can someone help me to resolve please?

Thank you

can you clarify things

I have ‘accidentally’ managed to uninstall kde-win
- you removed the package kwin?

I do not have control over windows and keyboard input.
- you can't switch between apps nor use the keyboard? so functionally your pc is unusable?

- I uninstalled WINE and part of the list of applications/packages that got uninstalled was kde-win - I think I might have selected something that wasn't necessary

- now, when kde starts, I cannot enter my password in for example the kde wallet manager - I cannot move a window around that is open after startup. I can select the kick-off -menu - the menu comes up but i cannot type anything in the "Search" box

don't know Kububtu but .....

can you get into terminal mode with
Code: Select all
 alt+ctrl+f1

there would be a login prompt, login and type
Code: Select all
apt-get install kwin

then restart go back to kde (alt+ctrl+f7) and log out then back in

this assumes that kwin is the only package needed that you removed

thank you for the accurate advice!

I have re-installed kdewin by using:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install kde-window-manager

All working fine now.

Thanks once again
