Not sure in which subforum this should go.
I am running KDE-4.6.2 without hal. When I connect my camera to USB all works as it should. So solid is working. When I pop an audio cd in the /dev/sr1 drive I get just one choice:Play with amarok.I don't want that I want kscd to play it automatically. I tried System Settings device actions to change that, alas the help docs are for KDE-4.4!!!! When I insert a data cd like systemrescuecd I get this message:
I am in the cd and plugdev group. How can I make it work the way I want. Thanks in advance, Gerard. Edit: Forgot to mention that with the audio cd in the drive I can start kscd press play and it will play the cd. Edit2:I replaced amarok with clementine because I got sick of amarok. Now when I insert an audiocd nothing happens but kscd still can play it.

Do you have UDisks installed? Is UDisks permitted to mount media on your system, and are you permitted to instruct UDisks to perform certain operations?
It seems that the rules used by KsCD to look for Audio CD's may have broken...

You didn't read/understand what I wrote! Yes I have udisks-1.0.2 installed and for good measure udisks-glue. While amarok was still installed it worked by offering to play the disk with amarok (only!). But since I got rid of amarok I can't get any action when I pop in a cd. The whole setup of "System Settings > Hardware > Device Actions" is very hard to understand. It doesn't make sense to me. The Help tells you that you have to formulate everything exactly. But what is the syntax?? I switched to kde4 from kde3.5 but it's been a lot of frustration from the start. I have been using Linux for a long time. use Gentoo since december 2003. I've always used kde because I didn't like Gnome but I am now considering installing Gnome and see if things will work better. BTW I only use Linux. Gerard.

Due to a bug in the Device Notifier applet, you may need to restart Plasma for it to detect new actions. It also has bugs in it's reading of the edits performed by the Device Actions KCM, so make sure to create a new action instead.

Of course all software contains bugs but I am getting tired of kde4 never ending bugs story. I browsed the kde.org help info on the internet: I found "kconfigeditor"! Too bad it's for kde3.2. Now isn't that ridiculous? Kde3 is not supported anymore since about 2 years. I have a separate partition on which I am installing Gnome. I do that with pain in my heart. I might return to kde when it's really stable and the docs and helpfiles can be understood by ordinary humans. Gerard.

Well I got it working!
I found where the configs made with systemsettings>hardware>device actions are located.I moved everything to a separate folder in /root. I re-installed amarok and copied the resulting config in /usr/share/apps/solid/actions changing it to kscd and do a little adapting. How nice to have something like systemsettings forcing you to bypass it and write a config by hand. Gerard. Edit: I uninstalled amarok and it's still working the way I want it.
