I have installed the latest KDE (Arch Linux on my live box).

Question #1: I know what the little semi-circle does in the upper right hand corner of the screen. How do I get rid of it or turn it off?

Question #2: I appreciate all the customizability in KDE, I've gone through it several times. I must be looking in the wrong place, or don't have the correct nomenclature in my head.

Issue: When running VMWare on the desktop, and I go to custom size the vmware screen....when it gets close to being maximized, the whole thing jumps and maximizes itself fully and covers the taskbar. This is an unwanted behaviour. What is this and how do I turn it off?

Sincerely and respectfully,

Dave

It is called the cashew, it is used to configure plasma, and it can't be turned off for safety reasons (it is possible to set up plasma so there is no other way to configure it). It is also used for changing activities. You can move it, however.

You probably need windows-specific rules, but I don't know which ones. Perhaps right-click on the window title, go to advanced -> special window settings -> workarounds -> window type -> force -> normal window.

Excellent!

Thank you for the reply and the information. I'll move the "cashew" if I need to.

I had errantly thought it to be related to my screen behaviour. Knowing what I know now, I'll just leave it there.

I am impressed with KDE. There are so many ways to customize it. A little daunting at first... Like a kid in a candy store with $100 bucks in his pocket.

You see, I'm an old guy (Vietnam Vet)....KDE has so many customizations, it is taking me some time to absorb it all, and there are settings in various places.

I hope the KDE community is ready for an influx of fellow Gnome refugees as Gnome 3 makes it into the distro pipeline!

Knowing what I know now, and seeing what I see now on my desktop.....I'll not go back to Gnome, There are so many more great applications in the QT world over GTK.

I looked at Gnome 3 in a live CD and gave it an honest test drive. It breaks all paradigms for desktop users. It's all about personal preferences, and Gnome 3 pretty much took all of those away. In KDE, I click on the menu and select "Classic" mode and I was pretty much good to go.

Again, thank you for the clarification and the information.

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Dave:
