I am using openSuse 11.4 and when I update to 4.6.2 ( from 4.6.0 which is on the dvd ) I can't login. After you put in the username and password and press return the screen goes black for a couple of seconds and then goes back to the login screen.

If, however, I login once with gnome or KDE failsafe and then immediately log out again it works fine from then onwards.

This happens even if I create a new user, that, or any existing users have to login once with something else before KDE will work

Any ideas ?

At the KDM login screen, manually choose "KDE Plasma Workspace" as your session type. After this, you can login successfully, and you won't need to redo this step anymore. (Unless the problem returns after another series of updates.)

The same thing happened to me on all of my KDE systems.
