Hello,
i'm new to KDE forums, so pls forgive me, if I'm asking in the wrong forum. First things first: OS CentOS 5 KDE 3.5 !!!! I.m missing the "switch user" entry in the KDE-Menu. After a lot of searching and trying out different hints, I'm at the end o fthe rope. What works: I can start a new session via "lock current session". I can switch between sessions with <ctr><alt>F7, F8, ... I do have the entries: [General] ... StaticServers=:0 ReserveServers=:1,:2,:3 in the kdmrc - file (/usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc) I have an entry: [KDE Action Restrictions] action/start_new_session=true in /usr/share/config/kdeglobals So can you point mr to what's wrong / missing? Hi Gerhard and welcome to the forums! Don't worry, I think this forum is fine for your question. It's also very good that you state which version you use.
Unfortunately I don't use 3.5.x so it's hard to answer your question. I assume that you're sure that you use KDM as your login manager, correct? Do you see the same problem if you login with a new user?

Hello Hans,
I'm sure it would easier for both of us to communicate in German, but as, as I hope, this thread will come to a good end, which might help others, I will stick to the English language ![]() Back, to what's really about: . That's a hard one, I found at least three different points to configure the login manager and none tells me what login manager it is modifying: - KDE configuration center - an utility in menu to configure it - the "configure" option in the login manager itself. Each one seems to apply only to certain aspects of the manager. (Especially, I didn't succeed in adding "root" to the user list, despite I checked the appropriate box in various tools...). But, yes I'm quit confident, that the login manager is KDM But: what relationship do you suspect between the login manager and the "switch user" option in the KDE menu?
Yes, the option is missing for all users. (root, and 3 "standard" users), irrespective whether the home directory was newly created by CentOS or copied from the previous installation (SUSE 11.2). Gerhard |
