Hello,
I have a strange problem on one of my machines where any dialog box (and also ksysguard) will always open at the top left (0,0) position regardless of any changes made in system settings>window behaviour>advanced, including resetting to defaults. I don't have any window rules forcing this behaviour, and in fact trying to use one to centre a dialog box doesn't have any effect. I have created a new user and can confirm that the problem doesn't exist there. I tried renaming my kwinrc, but that didn't solve the problem, so if anyone can give me any pointers as to which file holds these settings I'd be grateful. Cheers ![]() Steve |

Just to make sure, you're using KWin and not another window manager right?
Did you delete kwinrc when KWin was running?

Hi Hans,
Yes I can confirm that I'm using kwin and I renamed kwinrc while logged into a fluxbox session. I just did it again to make sure ![]() |

Can you reproduce under a new user?

Have you had a look at deleting (read renaming/moving) potential candidates in ~/.kde4/share/config?
I am just stabbing at stuff here, but since kwinrc didn't work there is also kdeglobals, kwin.eventsrs, kwinrulesrc or oxygenrc to name but a few. Have a look on your system, check file contents and then give it a go...

Thanks for the suggestion Toad.
Indeed removing kdeglobals helped it as it set the style (among other things) back to default oxygen. This led me to discover that QTCurve style was the culprit, but only if set to use transparency in dialog boxes. Using opaque dialog settings everything behaved as expected. Also setting dialog translucency in desktop effects everything works normally. Thanks all! Steve |
