you could try renaming your session manager config file /home/smiley/.kde4/share/config/ksmserverrc

when you say it "is closed just after login" does it crash, logout, bring you to the kdm screen?

if you create a different user does that user have the problem?

it brings me back to the opensuse 11.4 startup options screen (login screen) ; is this what you call kdm screen ? i guess so.

I removed kde 4.7 repos and took previous 4.6 upstream repos so that i could change system packages to go back to kde 4.6.5 release 7, but this story leads me to believe that each .0 version is not a good choice, too bad.

I had the same problem. When I logged in with KDM, it crashed and restarted the login screen. Deleting the directory ~/.gnupg helps for a while until this directory is recreated in a following session. Does anyone know, why I can login with startx but not from KDM if this directory is present? Which process creates this directory? I didn't use encryption (I think that's gnupg for) at all.
For me this also occurred after updating to 4.7.

Any ideas?

This folder is probably created the gpg-agent. No idea why it's startup is causing your login session issues however.

I would suggest contacting your distribution for further assistance.

I just solved the problem by installing libassuan from the tumbleweed repository. Seems to be an openSuSE problem and no KDE problem.

The discussion also occured under:

Hope this helps you as well
