Keyboard Pet Filter  Topic is solved

Thu Aug 11, 2011 5:33 pm
I'll apologise first because I have no idea where this topic should go. Please move to an appropriate location.

Is there some way to detect and minimize the effects of random input such as that entered by a cat, small dog, 3 year old grandson, etc? My cat seems particularly fond of sitting on the PrintScreen key when I don't notice. Closing 70 or so KSnapShot windows (if the computer isn't totally incapacitated) gets tedious very quickly. Multiple instances of other keys being pressed in no particular order also seem to stress the bulletproofness of my Desktop.

I know - keep the animals out of the computer room . . . ah . . . if only . . . ;D

claims to work under Linux http://bitboost.com/, you could also use a keyboard cover http://cache.wists.com/thumbnails/8/af/ ... 3b2e5-orig or a keyboard tray under the desk

if problem is mostly PrintScreen just disable the key or make it a key combo

I find switching the system to a VT when I am not around helps with things like this as well.

Thank you for the replies. That PawSense app looks intriguing but I'm not up to trying windows programs and hoping it will run on linux. Not at this point anyway. Situation is not that critical :)

Love the image of that cat stretched out over the keyboard "tent". Unfortunately, the 3 year old grandson can defeat that approach real fast. I'm using something similar with my tower and it has been (mostly)working. Wonder if my cat knows your cat?

Ksnapshot is probably the most annoying problem. I may well reassign the key combination. Hadn't thought of that. Thank you. On the other hand, how many instances of ksnapshot are needed at any given time? Could a "run only one instance" option be included as a configuration setting?

<switching the system to a VT> Sorry, I don't really understand what you're saying here. And the problem only crops up when I'm at the computer. If I'm away from the computer, third parties seem to lose all interest.

- PawSense claims "Cross-platform: operates under Windows, OS X (Macintosh), Unix/Linux"

- VT, is ctrl+alt+F1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_console

re single instance - you could write a script and assign it to the print screeen key that tested if ksnapshot was running and if it wasn't run it, else exit the script

my cat recently managed to sit on some key (combination) that copied all open applications to all workspaces - I'd love to know what he sat on, so I'd know what to shut down. Having several applications open across 4 workspaces pretty much spiked the CPU.
