Hi, please sorry if this is impatient, but i need a response.

So im new to KDE4 after mandriva has it with 2009 release.Took me a while to learn the retarded widget system where everything is a widget, and is super annoying when there are glitches in it so some important functions have problems like the one i have having right now.

Anyways i yesterday was installing guild wars and bla bla bla in Cedega.The game locked up, and so i used ctrl alt backspace (and i have noticed before then when you use ctrl alt backspace in KDE4 there always is something missing like mandriva menu or the opera shortcut on the panel and etc) but now when i got back into the desktop, i surprisingly didn't find anything missing.But soon enough when i fire up guild wars, the bottom panel does not hide itself.It doesn't go away.It stays there, unlike before.Its interfering with the game.I try WoW and same result.I try a youtube on firefox and opera full screen and then the buttons get hidden because the panel doesn't want to hide itself anymore.So what's the problem?

*Thanks if you help, and i find KDE4 to have great artwork good job to KDE team, and i would probable love it if this issue was solved, the widget system gets more mature, and amarok 2 doesn't turn into a flop because it 2 sucks, 1 rocks.

I don't know whether this is true of all versions of KDE4 but I believe that in openSUSE, you have to press Ctl-Alt-Backspace twice to initiate it.

I don't have this problem with wine

Do you tried to play the games with wine 1.1.7?

No im saying that it took fullscreen before, but when that 1 time i used ctrl alt backspace (when i used it before widgets when i loged back on will be missing) but this time full screen stuff don't cover the panel.

and you see how the buttons of fullscreen youtube are hidden?

Has mandriva included the new panel controller? if they have you will have a more settings button. check to see if the configuration in there matches what you expect.
You should probably change it to "Windows can cover"

well mandriva does have the controller, but when i do windows can cover it doesn't work right, it will have a window border on the panel, and then if i lanuch anything they will all take fullscreen.I want it the way it used to be, or like windows.The program sits on the panel, but if anything full screen like a game or youtube or WM11 fullscreen it will hide

Do i need to reinstall or go back to KDE3?Also auto-hide is not what i am asking for.

And the main problem is whenever ctrl alt backspace is hit the last setting made on the panel disappears.

What Ctrl+Alt+Backspace does, is it terminates X and everything that depends on it. The best analogy is like pulling your computer's power cord without shutting down, except that only graphical applications are affected.

Since Plasma saves its settings on logoff, it's not surprising that your settings were lost because it doesn't get a chance to save them when the X server terminates, and it's possible that some setting got messed up if some things saved and others didn't.

I would not recommend using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. If you can't Alt+Tab out of the app, and you can't kill it with Ctrl+Alt+Esc (which should set to a skull and crossbones and terminate any application you click), try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1, logging in and running "wineserver --kill" (or however this is done in cedega) and then going back with Ctrl+Alt+F7.

If Ctrl+Alt+F1 does nothing, try using the Magic SysRq Key. Press Alt+SysRq+R, which will will let the Kernel take back the keyboard, and try Ctrl+Alt+F1 again.

PS: To address your problem - try logging out of KDE, moving the .kde4 folder somewhere and logging back in. This will reset all your KDE4 settings to defaults, and see if full screen will start working properly again.

Wait, what do you mean?Do i like move the KDE folder to desktop and logout?Wouldn't that cause a fail to start?Or do i move folder and then put it back and logout?If i move it, will it go back to mandriva box edition or everything of KDE is kde 4.1 like theming and such?

I think i saw the problem before, too. Somehow the panel sometimes doesn`t get it right with fullscreen. What solved it (for the moment) for me, was leaving the fullscreen mode and entering it again.

'i found interesting that when my games are set in 800x600 resolution the panel goes away, and with 1680x1024 the panel shows a little, but in full 1680x1050 the panel fully shows.

oh well ill use auto hide for now but that doesn't mean im not annoyed.

*i also before reinstalled mandriva before the original writing of this post and the previous one, but i am still getting the full screen issue.

Shall i send a bug report to KDE?

What I meant is you log out of KDE and log in somehow so that nothing KDE-related is started (otherwise it will be a mess). For example, you can log out, go to the console (Ctrl+Alt+F1), do a console login and run "mv .kde4 .kde4.backup" and then start KDE. Yes, all your customizations (themes, etc.) will be lost, but you could try running your game and seeing if the panel still keeps showing up. You can then decide whether you want to reconfigure your settings, or go back to using your old configuration.

i used ctrl alt esc and now im getting funny noises when i open and close a program, or type a password it makes a noise now.........

ok this is even more odd

i reinstall, fullscreen worked for a little.But then after just a few hours fullscreen stopped, i haven't touched any keyboard commands at all.

does kde hate me?

ok i had it with kde 4 and mandriva, i put ubuntu 8.1 gnome in my system, little scared of gnome at first but now i see the grass is greener on the other side.
