I searched the forums briefly for a thread that would answer my question, but I've found nothing useful. If this post overlaps another question, please forgive me. That said, here's my issue:
I just installed Matlab from an installation DVD. After the install, I right clicked the Launcher Icon and selected "Edit Applications...". I successfully added an item under Science & Math that launches Matlab for me. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to add an icon for the Matlab launcher that I created. I read through the all the guides I could find for both Matlab and KDE 4.x, but nothing provides a guide for adding a custom icon to an item in Launcher menu. Can anyone offer a solution? BTW, I'm running Kubuntu 11.04 64-bit with KDE 4.6.2. |

In the KDE Menu Editor, simply select an item (Matlab) and click on the icon or the empty space (next to Name: and Description:) where there should be an icon.
I agree that it's not very obvious, would probably be better if it looked like a button, similar to the Properties dialog in Dolphin. I may try to send a patch that fixes it if I get KDE trunk (or is it master now?) running.

Wow, I can't believe I missed that. I actually wasn't sure where I should click until I compared my custom entry with a non-custom one.
I think you're right, having something that acts as a placeholder in that area would likely make that easier to find. Thanks for your quick reply and for your help! |
