I'm getting an error message saying 'Activation of org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit timed out' on one of my KDE users as I log in (fairly soon after entering my password, before seeing the desktop), and this user then cannot mount USB drives, suspend the system, etc. If I try another user, I get no error nor problems.
Why does this happen? What files should I look at to debug it? (I'd rather avoid completely erasing my complete ~/.kde4 if possible …) EDIT: after some more testing, it seems this _doesn't_ happend if I let kdm wait a bit before I log in, so the 'timeout' part of the error message was the big hint. Also, it happens on all my users, as long as I type my password quickly enough. Seems like a bug that should be fixed though, especially if you use autologin … added as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=281851 |

I would suggest checking your system, as ConsoleKit shouldn't take too long to start. This sounds quite a bit like ConsoleKit being stuck waiting for DNS resolution as your computer's hostname isn't in /etc/hosts or something similar.

It's definitely in /etc/hosts. |
