Wandering panel -- SOLVED

Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:12 am
When I logout and back in my top panel ends up somewhere mid-screen. This happens consistently and then without making a change the panel will suddenly reappear at the top of the screen as it should and as it just now has. Which means that I will not have a way to test a fix.

I have an image but do not know how to attach it.

Sounds similar to viewtopic.php?f=67&t=96688
Do you use multiple monitors?

If you want to share a screenshot you have to upload it somewhere first, e.g. http://imageshack.us/ or http://imgur.com, and then post the URL of the uploaded image here.

Thanks for the link to a previous report of this problem. It gave me the information to solve this problem.

I use backintime to backup my system every night. So I went back to where my system was working and copied /home/gld/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktoprc from the backup. At the moment this is working.

Another oddity that I had not yet mentioned was fixed also. In that case I had copied and renamed the desktoptheme folder geek to gld. When I selected these two desktopthemes colors were not the same. After the above change these are now identical. My original plan was to make modifications to geek. I will now probably go back to that.

I am using a single monitor and since the file that I modified is under my directory tree adding another user should have fixed the problem for the new user.

Is there a way to mark this thread as solved?

Great, although ideally the solution shouldn't involve manually fiddling with the config files. It would be nice if you could find a way to reproduce this behavior.
