Went to customize the icon for KWrite and now it's missing in the Menu, even after re-installing. Now I have to search for it in order to run it.
How do I bring it back so it shows in the menu?

quickest, assuming your searching is within kmenu, is to when found right click and "add to favorites"

Search in Kmenu only brings up "run Kwrite."

you can create a new Kwrite menu entry

That's the thing, that doesn't work either! It's like if you change the default icon, KDE "blacklists" that app from ever showing up on the Menu again!!!!!! |

try emptying your KDE cache either ~/.kde4/cache-?????.site or ~/.kde/cache-?????.site (where the "?"'s is the user account)
then run kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental |

can you open the kmenu editor and see if the kwrite is there (should be under Utilities -> Editor)

This problem happened today to me, too. I'm using KDE 4.7.2. I wanted to edit the KDE Menu entries for LibreOffice Calc, to add an export command (export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome) to the existing command, as it is not possible to scroll horizontally with LibreOffice Calc in KDE (see e.g. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 18#p971718). However, when I made the change to the KDE Menu entries for LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Base using kmenuedit, LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Base then disappeared from the KDE Menu completely. And the file associations have disappeared from System Settings > File Associations, too.
I have tried kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental but it made no difference. Bug in KDE? |

Removing the "OnlyShowIn=" line in the .desktop file fixed this problem for me.
This file is located in ~/.local/share/applications/your_new_app.desktop |
