I just upgraded several systems from KUbuntu 11.04 -> 11.10. Most things are working OK, but for every account on every machine I upgraded, logging in produces several bogus notifications that didn't used to be there in 4.6.
First is from "mail dispatcher agent", complaining something about being unable to access the outbox. I don't know what it means: I use thunderbird as my mailer and it's still working fine. (I tried kmail in the past and found it too buggy to use). This message is put into .xsession-errors, maybe related? akonadi_maildispatcher_agent(4854)/libakonadi Akonadi::SpecialCollectionsRequestJob::slotResult: Failed SpecialCollectionsRequestJob::slotResult "Unknown error. (Failed to fetch the resource collection.)" Then, the second notification went by too fast for me to capture it, but something from Nepomuk(?) about being unable to do something. But I Have nepomuk disabled in System Settings and don't want anything to do with it at all, let alone having it display notifications. How can I fix these things? Also, I think the change from the cashew (which I didn't mind) to "New Activity" is kind of annoying. I know it can be put back, and I've done that, but it seems like a bad default. The cashew was at least pretty unobtrusive, but having words written in a big button on your desktop like that is more glaring. |

In case anyone else finds this thread in the future by a forum search, I was able to fix the problem by deleting everything under my home directory having "kmail" or "akonadi" in the filename. Logging in now produces no annoying notifications any more.
I don't know why it was necessary, but problem solved. |
