I'm trying to figure out how to change the look of the panel. I find it too dark and it's hard to read the text on the open windows. I changed the color scheme and look of everything else but the panel is still the same 3d-ish gray. Ick! Some please help! Thanks!!

Right click on the desktop and choose Settings → Look, you'll find Theme there.

In newer versions it's in System Settings -> Workspace Appearance -> Desktop Theme. If you only want to change the panel appearance you can use the Details tab.
