I would like to set up my laptop as dual monitor with a 20" monitor.
Here is my lspci:
I can set up dual monitor and my monitor size, placement, etc in sys settings, but when I want to add a panel or widget to my 20" monitor video dies on that monitor. Since I am still using the default driver and have never done this I would like some aid. 1) Do I use "additional drivers" to install the prop ati driver or do I take this route: http://askubuntu.com/questions/46976/ati-catalyst-control-center-gives-error-radeon-hd-6470m 2) There also seems to be a problem with swithchable graphics: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/24483-Switchable-Graphics-Ubuntu-10.10?s=9a3f87f9a039dc9e08d3bb624b860551 Which I am not sure I understand. How do I know which graphic card is being used when? Also I read that my card will go "up to" 1GB RAM. I know it is a dedicated card, but how can I find out how much RAM my card has. There is nothing in the BIOS which gives my any info. I tried installing prop drivers once on my older machine and it was a BPOS, so I would like to get my facts straight first Smiley Cheers |

I have two dual monitor setups (on desktops, however) using the FOSS "radeon" driver. For me all it was needed was to set the relevant options in System Settings.
And yes, VGA switching support in Linux is kind of poor at the moment. Most of the problems may originate there, rather than upper in the stack.

Thank you
![]() I came across this yesterday and am still a bit wary: http://cisight.com/install-amd-radeon-hd-6470m-and-solve-overheat-on-ubuntu-1110-oneiric/ You can see my comments at the bottom. As of yet no one has responded. Feedback appreciated. ![]() |
