Windows are displaced in KDE4/Openbox. Why?

This has been annoying me for a while, and I just can't seem to figure it out...

When you replace KWin with Openbox as the preferred window manager, everything works fine at first. but log out and then log back in, and you get this:

As you can see the Kickoff menu (and other such plasma windows, e.g. the calendar) are displaced to the top of the screen; and the cashew has vanished in favor of an "unnamed" tab.

The thing is, if you instead let KWin start, and then replace it with Openbox... This does not happen. I don't see this with other window managers (e.g. Blackbox, Fluxbox), but I don't think it's a bug in Openbox either.

What gives?

Is your setup dual/multi-screen?

Unfortunately no idea, I would try to ask the OpenBox people as well.

The cashew "tab" is simply the cashew dragged from one of the corners. You can drag it back if your widgets are unlocked. Why this happens, again, I don't know.

An update: another Openbox/KDE user alerted me to a temporary workaround... Opening the panel settings dashboard (or whatever you call it - what you get when you click on the cashew on the right side of the panel) causes everything to get aligned properly again. This has to be done every time you start a session though.

An update:
- As of Openbox 3.5.0 and KDE 4.8.2, this bug still exists
- However, I've noticed that it only affects plasmoids that are part of the panel. Popups generated by free-floating plasmoids are not displaced.
Still no solution unfortunately, other than either a) invoking the panel config popup on every login or b) not using a panel.

Very unusual. Does Openbox provide any desktop effects or special features controlling the movement of windows?

Hmm, that's a thought... I hadn't looked into smart window placement options. Thank you, I'll see if that changes things.
