Greetings,

I always tend to use different programs/windows with different language settings, especially when it comes to chatting with different people.

Is it possible to make KDE remember keyboard layout settings over the time?

The same person is supposed to talk every time the same language with me.
I keep using the same programs with the same language settings, at least within a project`s lifetime.

I guess it`s the same for other users, too.

Have you tried using the shortcuts KDE makes available to change between Keyboard layouts in lieu of this feature?

It doesn`t allow me to set a specific keystroke to switch to a specific layout, as far as I know. It only has some alternative layout, through the CTRL-ALT-K, but that`s it.

My taskbar is auto-hiding, so having to press CTRL-ALT-K repeatedly until the right keyboard layout, in addition to having to un-hide the taskbar to see which layout is currently set does not sound very power-user friendly.

However, the point is that I`d like to set the layouts once forever to applications I`m always going to use in the same language. Too many times I start typing, then notice the layout is wrong, so I have to delete, switch layout, and type again. Annoying.

Oh, but it does :) Just check in systemsettings - you can assign each language a specific kbd shortcut.

Still doesn't solve your real problem though and I'm not sure whether you can set up window rules in systemsettings - window behaviour - window rules that pick up on language layout...

A possible if not all together perfect alternative would be to use a different chat client for each language.
