Hello Everybody,
I got a problem after I updated from KDE 4.7.4 to KDE 4.8. The problem is that the context menu is not shown in any application I run, or even in case of right click on my Desktop. However, it shows up once I move my mouse up or down right after the right click. What could be a solution to solve the issue? Calculate linux (Gentoo based), Single monitor. Thank you in advance! |

Have you tried disabling Desktop Effects?
Which Application Style do you use? The default is Oxygen.

Hello,
Thank you for prompt answer! The style is Oxygen and it works well once I disable desktop effects. How to force it working with enabled effects? |

Which graphics system are you using for KWin? OpenGL or XRender?
Also, can you try starting a KDE application using both the "native" and "raster" graphics systems to see if that has any impact?

I'm using OpenGL. When I use native it works well. What is this and how can I switch to that?
I have also Calculate Linux on my laptop and I experience there same behavior with context menu. Common things between two PC are Intel graphic driver and Cairo-dock...

If you disable Cairo Dock, and use Plasma Desktop with KWin instead, can you reproduce this?
As for changing the default Qt Graphics System? http://apachelog.wordpress.com/2010/09/ ... ystem-kcm/ Or alternately, you can add "export QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=native" to a executable *.sh file under ~/.kde4/env/ (creating the env/ folder if needed, and substituting ~/.kde4 for ~/.kde depending on what your system uses)

I have disabled the Cairo-dock but still there is no context menu. It is, seems to be, not a root cause. It works with KWin without Desktop effects enabled.

Ok, so it seems that the Raster Qt Graphics System can't handle OpenGL operating at the same time on your system.
One last test - can you try another widget style such as Plastique with the raster graphics system and compositing enabled to verify it is not something the Oxygen style is doing?

I have tried. It doesn't work with other style. Looks like it is the Intel video driver...
Thank you for you help! |

Please file a bug with Qt or the Intel graphics driver so that this can be corrected. For the interim, you should be able to use the QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM environment variable to workaround this issue for now.

I made system update 17.02.2012 and it fixed everything. So now context menu of any application works well.
