Hi to all, I have and Acer Aspire 5630 with Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz, Ram 2GHz, and an NVIDIA GeForce GO 7300

I am using Kubuntu 8.10 and KDE4.1

I installed NVIDIA drivers 177.80

All the Desktop effects are not working. I tried to install the KDE 4.2 nightly build and in that case they work (but the release is too much unstable for me).

Do you have any suggestion? Maybe it is an NVIDIA config problem (on kubuntu 8.04 they worked so maybe it is a matter of drivers).

(I know this is not ubuntu forum, but in kubuntu forums nobody as able to help me. This it seems to be a problem related to KDE4+NVIDIA and maybe here there are more expert people on this field)

I have the same card, and the effects work for me, so it is probably a problem with configuration somewhere.

Have you tried running "glxgears"? Do they work?

Yes and it works.

On ubuntu 8.04 it was working.

It should be a problem related to nvidia drivers or xorg.conf

And in 4.2 they are working (but the rest of the desktop is unstable)

Have you tried running "nvidia-xconfig" as root to have NVIDIA generate the xorg.conf for you?

of course.

Now I am running 4.2 nightly build (through neon project). Effects are working but kickoff is not showing the installed apps (but i'll survive...)
At least windows rendering is better than 4.1.2.
