Hello,

Is there a way to manually load the configuration of .kde/share/config/khotkeysrc into kwin?

When a shortcut is present in this file kwin doesn't use it, even when running kwin --replace. I need to add the shortcut via kmenu again before I can use it..

The reason why I'm asking this are the following bugs:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/264300
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/132001

The KHotkeys process is responsible for global shortcuts not KWin. try restarting KHotkeys instead.

Thanks, but doesn't seem to work:

/usr/bin/khotkeys
ERROR: Communication problem with khotkeys, it probably crashed.

When I run /usr/bin/khotkeys --nocrashhandler I get the same message and no core dump.

Logging out/in to KDE does pick up any change of an existing shortcut, win+t > win+j works without the kshortcut command...

After changing a keyboard shortcut try running kbuildsycoca4.
If another KDE application is handling the global shortcuts then this should make it aware of them ( i think kded might be handling them... )

I will give it a try, I need to reboot to complete my Ubuntu upgrade to 8.10, and normally after upgrades likes these I do not have my shortcuts anymore (they are present, but they don't work..). Will give it a go.

From the manpage:
kded triggers Sycoca database updates when needed.

So it could be kded which is triggered when you update shortcuts via the GUI.

Mm, KDE4 is used for 8.10 so I'm unable to test it..

Assuming KDE 3 was not uninstalled, you should be able to access it by changing the "session" you want before you login ( in KDM ). Try right clicking in the lower left hand corner. it should produce a menu that allows you to select KDE 3, KDE 4 ( and if you have it installed, GNOME )

No, they removed KDE3. They treated it as an upgrade..

Ouch, even I still need some KDE 3 applications ( Konqueror for proxies ). Do you still have this problem under KDE 4?

I don't know.. I have problems with my X on ubuntu 8.10 and I do not want to use 4 yet.. I still consider it to be experimental, so I will install kde3 on monday (or downgrade to 8.04, haven't decided yet).

This is my thread on the ubuntuforums regarding the problems and X.. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=964865
