I'm fairly new to KDE so need some help here on a project.
The system I'm using is Kubuntu 11.10.

KDE has widgets that can be docked into a panel, and they usually have an Options menu (well, all of them have options menus). Several options are availabe in the "handle" shaded on the side of widgets, like resizing, zooming, rotating, settings, killing the widget, etc.

My goal is to trick the system to think that the widgets are locked only to remove the shaded side menu bar.
Like this:

So, technically, widgets are not locked but the appearance of widgets will be the same as they are.

How are we going to implement resizing function is not the focus for now so could anyone give some help on how to do that?

I've been looking into some configuration files under ~/.kde/share/config but found nothing.

Any suggestions, hints, points are appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! Did you perhaps post this to the plasma-devel mailing list as well? Because someone did, you can read Aaron's reply here: http://osdir.com/ml/plasma-devel/2012-03/msg00022.html

Yes indeed, that's one of our group members.
We didn't get anything back via email so we thought no one actually answered the question.

Well,
One of the admins said "the easiest way is to change the type of the containment from DesktopContainment to CustomContainment. "
would you mind telling us how that is able to be accomplished?

Or should I just post a comment on the mailing list? (Haven't been playing around with mailing list before, sorry for any naive questions.)

Unfortunately I don't know, I guess you have to do it somewhere in the source code (you could try to grep for DesktopContainment, for example, in the plasma source). The best place to ask such questions is in the plasma-devel mailing list.

Note that you need to be subscribed to the mailing list (here's plasma-devel) in order to get the replies. Alternatively, you can ask people to CC you the reply.

Appreciate it.
