I am using Thunderbird 11 with KDE 4.8.1, Kubuntu 11.10.

Each time a new message comes, Thunderbird shows a popup which then goes away.

Message Indicator in the system tray says 'One application running', which is Quassel.

For some reason it doesn't see Thunderbird.

What can i do that Message Indicator to be aware of new messages in Thunderbird?

firetray can show the tray icon with the number of new messages and popup menu with useful actions for Thunderbird.

You can download the latest version and use "Tools - Add-ons - Extensions - Install" to install it.

Thank for the hint!

I had 'MinimizeToTray revived' addon installed. Didn't know about 'FireTray'.

When installing FireTray i noticed that i have 'Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration' addon disabled. When i enabled it, Message Indicator now sees Thunderbird.

I had to install the package thunderbird-gnome-support to make Thunderbird use the KDE message indicator. Firetray was not needed in my case.

Hey guys,

I was wandering if the message indicator works fine for you all. I've followed this thread in order to get thunderbird to show up in the message indicator in the tray. What happens is that it sometimes new messages do show up in the message indicator and sometimes they don't and I don't know why.
When I get a new email message, a new tray pop-up will always show up just like I've specified in the notification settings however, that's not the case with the message indicator.
I really like the message indicator and the whole idea behind it as it unifies notifications from kopete and thunderbird. I leave thunderbird running in the background minimized when I leave my computer or throughout the night. When I get back there's been plenty of times that the message indicator shows no unread messages while when I unminimize thunderbird I see that I do have new emails.
I'm using thunderbird v17, kde v4.9.2 and gmail's IMAP.
In thunderbird under preferences > general I have activated the option when new email arrives show: in messaging menu" I've also selected for all folders not just inbox. And that's another thing that doesn't work consistently. Some times I get new messages in some new folder and again, tray pop-up works fine but no new message indicator notification.

any ideas?

thank you

PS: with kopete this never happens. New unread messages never fail to register to the message indicator

I am using Kubuntu 12.04 - it doesn't work.
I have 'Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration' enabled and package `thunderbird-gnome-support` installed.
Maybe some recent updates broke it?
