FolderView is the transparent box with files, right? But I just get a huge folder icon that when clicked brings up a list of folders. There are no view options in settings and whatever I do it stays the same.
That's when adding the widget; when I set the desktop to folder view the screen divides into two sides: the left one is a huge folder icon (or an insanely zoomed in desktop icon if desktop is the folder), the right half empty white space. The settings window becomes as big as the screen and I can't resize it any smaller. Help |

1st - the widget you've added is "quick access" not "folder view" (both are folder widgets but different), settings can be opened by right clicking the widget or clicking the wrench that appears when hovering
2nd - no idea |

There is no widget named "quick access". It's called folderview. The same happens when I set my desktop to folderview.
I know how to access settings, but no matter what you do you cannot change the view or behaviour. (I remember that I could choose between icon view, list, asf, but it's no longer there...) |

Yes it happened after an update. Thought another one would fix it, but it's been a while. Do you know where folderview settings are saved or a way to reset it?
I definitely don't have quick access. |

each time you open a folderview widget it opens with the defaults, there's no cofgig (rc) file per se for plasmoids - so removing then readding it would normally reset it
assuming foldervew is your only problem I would reinstall it and make sure its the correct one for your KDE version. in openSUSE it's called "plasmoid-folderview" and has only 2 entries plasma_applet_folderview.so & plasma-applet-folderview.desktop does your system have other Plasma related issues? if you create and login as a new user does that user have the problem? if not you might try reseting plasma to defaults:

Thanks for your help.
I tried a reinstall but it's the same. Then I moved .kde4 to .kde4old and got a clean new kde with a working folderview... Progress of some kind I guess. Is there a way to pin down the problem? |

I would reset plasma to defaults as described earlier

Which kde version are you using?
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253485 is a similar bug. Please, proceed to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253485 and report the issue there. Please, mark the topic as solved. Also, I encourage you to use bugs.kde.org for bug reports (product plasma). The forum does not scale as a bug tracker.
